I’ve heard many new users say of Honorable Character that it is hard to implement the program consistently. Or, conversely from a principal, “The program is working well in the classrooms where it is being used regularly. The teachers who are not consistent with Honorable Character are struggling.”
This is true of any solution to any problem. The more consistent you are, especially in the beginning, the easier it becomes to use. Your students will bend their behavior to the expectations you set — but if those expectations shift frequently, it’s impossible for the students to change.
How can you improve in this area? Make a goal: Every day, you will catch every student making at least one right choice in the day. After two weeks, increase the goal to two right choices. Putting a number to consistency allows you to see your personal improvement (but I think the atmosphere of your classroom will be a dead give away as well…)
Any other tips on using Honorable Character consistently?
