Tip of the Week: Ending the Year “Positively”

There are still a few weeks left before summer, depending on your school district, but as you begin your usual end-of-year routines, take a few minutes to note trends.

You’ve noticed the positive character in your classroom for months now. Probably you’ve awareded 100s of Responsiblity marks to students who returned papers on time. Maybe there are a few other traits that everyone in your class seems to demonstrate.

But take a closer look at each individual’s Conduct Cards from each quarter. Are there a large amount of  marks for Honesty? Diligence? Kindness? Send a note home, or if you normally write a letter to each student, mention in then. Call them out for consistently demonstrating Self-Control all year.

Anyone can notice weakness or poor choices, but when you catch a strength acknowledge it, cultivate it … open their eyes to see what traits they possess and that trait will be even stronger next year.
